Each brick is inscribed with a European countries’ ISO country code, indicating where the soil that created the concrete came from. Mia Florentine Weiss collected the soil from each of the 47 European countries. The soil was integrated into the KREUZ WEG installation continuously throughout its duration.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Versailles in 2019, the artist Mia Florentine Weiss will transform the main nave of the Nikolaikirche into a universal KREUZ WEG through a large-scale installation of a walk-in cross. Entering the installation, visitors encountered a physical experience, one in which their own weaknesses, identities and questions were confronted, pushing them to the limits of perception.

The cross was set upon the model of a hill amassed from topsoil originating in each European state, and bricks were made from each collection of soil.
